Syncrude Boiler Replacement
Two existing boilers located in this research facility were replaced and variable frequency drives (VFD) were added to the circulation pumps for the boilers. VFDs will adjust the speed of the pumps to the demand accordingly, typically the pumps would run at maximum capacity. By lowering the speed of the pumps, operating costs are reduced.
Replacement of the boilers was completed in three phases. One boiler along with associated piping, controls and any electrical revisions was replaced, the second boiler was then similarily replaced as well. In the final phase the VFDs were installed on the associated pumps and changes to the valving were done as necessary.
